BODEGAS FAUSTINO ,S.L.
Bodegas Campillo was created as the dream of its founder Julio Faustino Martínez to recreate the model of the great Bordeaux chateaux in Rioja. Located near the medieval village of Laguardia, construction began in 1988 and the opening was almost two years later on September 28, 1990 as "Campillo", the name of the first vineyard from the Faustino group.
The winery is surrounded by seven small vineyards. The soil is clay and limestone. Next to this excellent soil are the spectacularly designed buildings that make up the winery-like a Bordeaux chateau at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria mountains. Bodegas Campillo is loated at 610 meters above sea level where rainfall is 500 mm per square meter. Most of the vineyards are tempranillo with favorable exposure to the sun to obtain grapes with concentration and ripe tannins. Campillo grapes are harvested by hand and in the oldest vineyards the grapes are collected in crates. 20% of our wines undergo malolactic fermentation in oak casks.
Once bottled, the wines rest in total darkness at about 14º C to allow them to develop their finesse, complexity and elegance.
